Dog Policy at Drimpton Village hall

🐾

As spring arrives and more people head outside to enjoy the sunshine, we’d like to take a moment to remind all visitors about our Dog PolicyĀ at Drimpton Village Hall and Recreation Ground.

🚫 No Dogs Allowed on Village Hall Grounds

To protect the health, safety, and enjoyment of all who use our facilities, dogs are not permitted anywhere on the village hall grounds or in the buildings at any time, whether an event is taking place or not.

This includes all areas of the recreation field, children’s play spaces, and sports areas.

The only exception to this rule is for service dogs assisting individuals with disabilities, who are of course welcome.

🧼 Why This Policy Is in Place

We understand that many dog owners are responsible and do their best to clean up after their pets. However, even with the best intentions, dog waste can be difficult to spot and collect—particularly if a dog has had an upset stomach or if the poo ends up in long grass.

Unfortunately, dog faeces pose a significant health risk, especially to children and sports participants using the field. Dog waste can contain harmful bacteria and parasites, including:

  • Campylobacter, E. coli, Salmonella

  • Roundworms, Cryptosporidium, Cyclospora, and Giardia

These can cause unpleasant and sometimes serious illnesses, ranging from stomach upset to more severe infections, especially if the waste contacts broken skin or is accidentally ingested.

šŸ‘®ā€ā™€ļø Enforcement & Penalties

We prefer to rely on community awareness and social responsibility, and we’re grateful to the many dog owners who respect the rules. However, please note:

  • The policy is enforced by the Village Hall Committee, hirers, and usersĀ of the grounds.

  • Dog Wardens from Dorset Council have the authority to issue fixed penalty noticesĀ under the 2024 Dog Related Public Spaces Protection Order.

  • A recent incident has prompted wardens to confirm that they do not need to witness the dog on the grounds in order to issue a fine—evidence and reports are sufficient.

Anyone found in breach of the policy will be asked to remove their dog immediately. Repeat offences may result in exclusion from the site.

āš ļø A Final Word

Please remember that this land is privately owned by the Village Hall Trustees, with public access granted under certain conditions. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in helping to keep our recreation ground clean, safe, and welcoming for everyone.

Thank you,

The Drimpton Village Hall & Recreation Trust
