The Ladykillers

7pm for 7.30 start

In this classic British black comedy, eccentric criminal mastermind Professor Marcus (Alec Guinness) devises a cunning plan to rob a security van. To keep up appearances, Marcus and his gang of misfit accomplices—posing as a string quintet—rent a room in a boarding house owned by the sweet but sharp-witted Mrs Wilberforce (Katie Johnson).

Their seemingly perfect plan takes an unexpected turn when Mrs Wilberforce discovers their true intentions. The bumbling gang must now deal with her meddling, but their attempts to outwit the elderly widow lead to hilariously disastrous consequences.

Featuring a stellar ensemble cast, including Peter Sellers and Herbert Lom, The Ladykillers is celebrated for its witty dialogue, sharp humour, and a delightfully dark tone. Directed by Alexander Mackendrick, the film remains a quintessential example of Ealing Studios' unique blend of charm and macabre comedy.
