Good news for Drimpton – villagers enjoying DMaD’s popular birds and wildlife wildlife coffee morning at the Village Hall on Saturday said they’d seen 36 different types of birds and 14 species of wild animals in and around their gardens.
Many ideas were shared to get our gardens buzzing and tweeting, creating wildlife friendly areas: ‘I leave the leaves and the wind moves them on the flower beds where they’re a brilliant mulch to protect and feed the plants, plus they shelter insects and birds find food!’ Another built a bug hotel from pallets and left log piles at the bottom of the garden.
Regularly cleaning bird feeders is also vital to prevent disease and leaving flower stalks and seeds can give homes to insects and food for birds over winter.
A happy and hopeful time was had by all
