A Right Royal Knees-Up! VE Day Dance Recap

What a night! Thank you ever so much to all who turned out for our VE Day Celebrations – it really was the cat’s pyjamas! The village hall was buzzing with laughter, music, and good old-fashioned community spirit, just like the good old days when everyone mucked in and made do.

With bunting fluttering above and tables dressed with lovely little details (those poppies and flags, Joyce – you’re a marvel!), we all sat down to a slap-up supper of fish and chips, with a smashing veggie option too. Huge thanks to Steve and the team at The Royal Oak for cooking up a storm and dashing it all down to us.

The fancy dress efforts were a sight to behold! Special mention to Tom, who sported a freshly grown moustache just for the occasion – now that’s commitment to the cause! His table were rightly chuffed to win the raffle prize: a cracking box of 1940s sweets. A real treat!

Of course, the real showstopper was the music. Sunset Café Hot Four – a dazzling quartet spun from the fabric of the legendary Sunset Café Stompers – had us all jitterbugging and toe-tapping from the first note. Their wartime repertoire hit all the right notes, with more than a few folks saying we ought to make this an annual bash. Judging by the beaming faces and sore dancing feet, we’d say that’s a jolly good idea!

Cheers also to Steve and Stuart for keeping the bar running smoothly, also to John and Anne for their help with decorating – what would we do without you?

All in all, it was a night to remember. A real tonic for the soul. Just goes to show, when this village pulls together, we make magic happen. Same time next year?
