Summary of Chairs Report

1. Charity Overview

  • The Trust was established in 1923 to provide and maintain a village hall and recreation ground for all Drimpton inhabitants.

  • Its goal is to improve life quality through inclusive leisure, learning, and social activities.

2. Committee Structure

  • The Committee consists of:

    • Up to 7 elected Trustees (4 currently in place).

    • Up to 9 Representative members from village clubs.

    • Up to 2 Co-opted members.

    • Casual roles filled as needed.

  • Trustees hold official roles such as Chair, Vice Chair, Treasurer, Secretary, and Bookings Secretary.

  • Several representative and secretary positions remain vacant.

3. Hallmark Accreditation

  • Trustees voted to pursue Hallmark status (quality standard by ACRE) in May 2024.

  • Progress made towards Hallmark Levels 1 and 2 (administration, health & safety).

  • Targeting accreditation by summer 2025.

​

4. Events and Activities

  • Regular hire: Exercise classes, clubs (garden, bowls, film), Young Farmers, Duke of Edinburgh camps, football, training, and light lunches.

  • Occasional hire: Parties, celebrations, and children’s events.

  • Entertainment: Artsreach shows, bands, Christmas events, quiz nights, Big Breakfast, and more.

  • Community support: Coffee mornings, educational talks (e.g., farming, wildlife, defibrillator use).

  • Off-site support: Scarecrow competition, Pub Pentathlon.

  • Residents from nearby villages benefit from discounted rates.

  • Marketing boosted via a new website and social media.

Planned Events:

  • Play evening (April), VE 80th Dance (May), Country & Western Dance (June), Garden Club Show, Christmas Show.

​

5. Repairs

Completed:

  • Playground fence painting, roundabout bearing, smoke detectors, new Wi-Fi and phone, fire door, ramp repairs, football shelters moved, loft ladder replaced, new mower, fence repairs.

​

Planned:

  • Car park reseeding, wood treatment for sheds/benches, internal decorating, stage curtain replacement, solar panel cleaning.

​

6. Projects Completed

  • Asset inventory, kitchen reorganisation, trial Facebook page, new website, insurance reassessment, village newsletter funding review, constitution updates, accessible seating at events.

​

7. Future Plans

  • Grass bank to become a wildflower meadow (monitored by Drimpton Makes a Difference).

  • Audio/visual capability review for accessibility.

  • Major upcoming project: playground refurbishment with new equipment/design.

  • Youth Club expected to reform; Village Voices group bringing energy to events.

  • Positive outlook due to competitive fees, energetic committee, and community growth.
