Saturday 9 August saw the 79th Annual Summer Show for the Drimpton & District Gardening Club.
We were extremely lucky with the weather as it wasn’t too hot & didn’t rain, so very pleasant conditions to sit around, drink tea & eat excellent cakes in the very busy tea tent. Not to mention have a good chat with friends and neighbours.
There were more entries/exhibits this year than there has been for the past few years, and they were all of a very high standard, which was amazing in the flower and vegetable classes given the weird and wonderful weather we have had over the past few months.

You will be able to see from the photos the fantastic entries, particularly in the Arts & Crafts classes, and we were hugely delighted to see so many entries in the Children’s classes. Some of these were, (in my opinion) awesome!
The high number of entries in the photographic section must have made the judge’s job very difficult, but the choices were made & prizes handed out.

The chosen charity this year was Yeovil Freewheelers who are a bunch of amazing people who give up their free time to bike blood & other urgent medical supplies to the hospitals in the area. The excess income and donations on the day enabled the Garden Club to give the Charity a donation of £350 which was greatly appreciated.
All in all, I’m sure everyone thought it was a fun day and although the committee, helpers and stewards work extremely hard, all the efforts seem to have been worth it.
Many, many thanks to all the helpers, stewards, labourers etc who gave up not only their Saturday, but Wednesday evening, Friday afternoon & evening and then the following Wednesday to take the marquee down again.
Next year it will be the 80th Summer Show, so lets hope we can get all the village together to celebrate & put on an equally excellent event. Have a look at our Photo Archive page to see the photos of the Summer Show.
