Dog Policy

logo colour multi.png

Purpose: To maintain the safety, cleanliness, and quality of the recreation area for all recreational users and to ensure that the environment remains conducive to outdoor activities.

Policy:

No Dogs Allowed

Dogs are not permitted in the buildings or grounds of Drimpton Village Hall at any time, regardless of whether a game, practice, or event is taking place. Service dogs assisting individuals with disabilities are permitted.

Rationale:

Public Safety, Hygiene and Cleanliness, despite dog owners best intentions, it is not always easy to see where a dog defecates. Dog faeces are not always easy to collect, particularly in cases of stomach upset. Dog waste on the field or play area can create health hazards and unpleasant conditions for players.

Dog waste can contain various bacteria and parasites that are harmful to humans. Examples include Campylobacteriosis, E. coli, Salmonellosis, and parasites like Cyclospora, Cryptosporidium, Giardia, and roundworms. These can cause illnesses like diarrhea, cramping, abdominal pain, fever, and in some cases, more serious infections.
Dog waste can also carry parasites that can cause infections if accidentally swallowed or if the dog poo comes into contact with an area of broken skin, such as a graze or a cut.

â—¦ Children playing or sport participants on the recreation area can be exposed to
these risks during normal playing of games and sport.

3.0 Enforcement

This is a matter of social conscience and it is preferred to allow it to police itself

The policy will be enforced by Committee members, hirers and all users of the facilities. Individuals who fail to comply with the policy will be asked to remove their dogs from the premises immediately.

Repeated violations may lead to exclusion from using the land and/or a fixed penalty notice under
the The Dorset Council Dog Related Public Spaces Protection Order 2024
